This one is pretty sweet. The wing may be a bit big, but they stuffed a 2JZ into it and gave it some power and look-at-me bits. This one is pretty awesome, actually.

I've always hated the exhaust tips on the stock Toyobaru. They look way to small for the arch. Other than the wing, I really like how this one looks.

Yeah the tips help a lot. I think the wing is decent, it's just a bit TOO much. A wing does help its look IMHO though.
Really, they call it a GT-86 with toyota badges, but the wing screams STi

If the wing wasn't as tall I'd be cool with it. I agree, the wing as it is does scream STI.

I feel like they should have bought an EJ, and then made some power out of that. That way, it wouldn't have ruined the balance of the car and it would be supremely fast.

2Jzs are cheap and well understood. Also from the pictures ive seen of the few 2jz swaps done into Toyobarus theres loads of engine bay room left for turbos.

True, this may have put the balance way out of whack. There are other videos of it being drag raced... for shame.

Would have made the license "JZJZ" instead of "1212".
I can't imagine how much they raised the center of gravity doing that swap. It probably requires significantly better cooling too, added power notwithstanding.
It sounds badass though, and is obviously rocket-fast. Sweet car.

Completely agree. I don't see why they couldn't simply modify the modern motor? I'm not sure if the FA20 can handle the power... but I'm sure with the money poured into this thing, it could get up there.
The subaru-factory turbo FA20 is around 300hp / 300 ft*lbs. So I can imagine more radical improvements could be made.

Valvetrain complexity and width would a big problem. You have twice the number of cams on a boxer than an inline six, and there's no real room to add stroke since the engine has to have a short deck height. So if you wanted to make lots of power, material strength would be a very limiting factor on the FA20, since for it to handle the same power, all of the parts have to be heavier and stronger and more complex than a 2JZ, and the 2JZ started off with stronger, heavier parts to begin with.

makes sense, guess I didn't think about what the FA20 is made of.
